Alexander Ross was, by some margin, the most influential and prolific architect to come from the Highlands. His career began in tragedy, with the death of his father and were it not for the support of the local community, his fortunes may have been quite different.

His talent as a designer brought success after success taking him to the top of his profession. Buildings designed by Ross can be found in towns and villages across Scotland, but his influence is most clearly found in the Highlands. He was a leading figure in the development of Inverness. He laid out plans for the expansion of the Highland capital and filled its streets with many beautiful buildings.

This book brings his work together for the first time, to reveal his extraordinary architectural legacy and to celebrate his life and contribution to highland culture.
